SILECS (Super Infrastructure for Large-Scale Experimental Computer Science) is the French node of SLICES. It is built on FIT and Grid’5000, two popular platforms in experiment-driven research. SILECS appears on the French national Roadmap since 2016 and aims at providing an open experimental platform from the data sensing to its storage and processing going through its transmissions over heterogeneous wired and wireless network technologies. SILECS is a unique platform, fully monitored and programmable at every point of the chain (end-devices, gateways, base stations, baseband and remote radio units, programmable switches, edge/fog servers, data servers, etc) allowing a reproducible research. It proposes different environments (indoor, outdoor, anechoic rooms) to assess every solution for wireless technologies and better understand physical phenomena for IoT, 5G, 6G and beyond as well as a diversity of computing and storage resources to experiment from edge computing to cloud and HPC computing. SILECS gathers all the French community in networking and distributed systems, including major universities (Grenoble, Lille, Lorraine, Sorbonne, Strasbourg, Toulouse), schools (ENS Lyon, Eurecom, IMT, INSA Lyon), research institutes (CNRS, Inria) and RENATER (the French national communication network for technology, research and education).
